Mrs. Buffy Vaughn – 7th grade Math

I’m Mrs. Vaughn, the 7 th grade math teacher.
I want you to know how excited and honored I am to teach your child. I have taught high school
and middle school in 5 different states from Tennessee to Texas to California to Alabama. I have
a graduate from Jacksonville State University. I am certified to teach Middle Grades
Mathematics and Social Science. I also work with The Alabama Math and Science Technology
Initiative helping teachers find and use the best teaching practice to help their students.
I am working hard to make sure your child is prepared for college or a career field. I want
to provide my students with strong math skills and depth of conceptual knowledge. I want
our students to feel confident in their mathematical abilities, problem-solving skills and
successfully take ownership of their academic success. I am married to Lonny Vaughn and I
have two children. My husband and I moved back to our hometown after he served 20 years in
the Marine Corp. He served three tours in Iraq and I am very proud of his service to our country.
My daughter, Shelby, is married to Logan Owens. She graduated from Southeastern University
in Florida with a B.S. in business music She is a Christian music writer and artist and she also
works at WDJC radio. Shelby’s husband, Logan, is the youth pastor at Legacy Church and
Shelby is the praise and worship leader. My husband and I work with the children’s ministry at
our church.
My son, Dalton, graduated from Jacksonville State University and it a nurse at St. Vincent’s
East in the CVICU, Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. His wife, Elizabeth, is also a nurse.
She is currently staying home with our new grandbaby, Bailee Noel Vaughn. They both work
with Wednesday night children’s church.
My family loves the outdoors. We like to kayak, hike, camp, and go spelunking. I also have a
lazy side where I binge watch my favorite shows, The Walking Dead and Survivor. I love to
have company over to cook and play board games or cards. Neither of which I am very good
at playing.
I have an open door policy. I want my parents to feel they can contact me at anytime. Our
goal is to tap into your student’s potential and let them shine.
